Scuba Diving Theory On Wednesday, November 22nd, Ocean Divers came to talk to us prior to our scuba diving course on November 27th. He explained all of the rules and procedures that will take place on Monday before we begin to dive. He told us about how he got into scuba diving and why he loves it so much, he has been diving his whole life. He went through how to use all of the equipment we will have on us while diving and the function of it all. He described how you unblock your ears underwater as you go deeper and deeper in the pool/ocean. I am looking forward to this extra activity and it should be a good and fun experience for everyone trying it out.
Scuba Diving Practical On Monday, November 27th, I travelled to the National Aquatic Centre with my classmates to complete the practical part of scuba diving. When we arrived Willie split us into two groups, i was a part of the 1st group who got to scuba dive first. Willie explained that we would change first and then get into our gear. When we arrived out to the pool area we had to pick out a wetsuit and flippers that we thought would fit us. As soon as we found a wetsuit and flippers, we had to sit on the edge of the pool as we were given goggles and a BCD (a jacket that has the oxygen tank connected). The helpers explained to us the uses of all the buttons and the gages on the jacket. We were split up into groups of 5 or 6. I was in a group with Amy H, Aidan, Ben M and Freeman. Our instructor ran through how to use the regulator that supplied us with the oxygen. After this we did a few dives, some explaining how to get rid of the water from inside your goggles, or to see how the buoyancy fluctuated. I really enjoyed this experience, i learnt a new skill and i would definitely recommend taking part in this extra activity to the younger years to follow.
