On Monday, October 23rd, I took part in a self defence course. This course was introduced to ensure that us teenagers are prepared if approached or attacked. I think this was a brilliant idea to make us aware about the ways to avoid getting attacked and how to deal with an attack. We learnt the best ways to defuse a dangerous situation in order to prevent injury.
For the first part of the class, we looked at previous attackers and their victims and how they could've avoided the attack or how they should've handled their attacker.
After we learnt the rules and systems we began how to fight off an attacker in simple an basic moves. We got told the incorrect ways of punching which was really useful to avoid breaking your hand during a fight. We began learning combinations and intercepts which were really fun to learn and practice.
On Tuesday, October 24th, in the afternoon we were assessed in everything we had learnt and our fitness levels to see if we could handle being in an attack. This was a very difficult assessment and it gives a better perspective of how a real fight would be and it showed us that if you aren't fit for a fight, you'll struggle to defend yourself.
In my opinion, I believe this course was so beneficial in teaching us the correct ways to defend yourself under pressure and stress. It opened my eyes to how difficult it would actually be attempting to defend yourself by yourself. This course will benefit a lot of people and I really recommend participating, I really enjoyed the experience.
