On Friday November 10th, Mary Bunion came to introduce us to law and the background of what you would do if you were to practice law. She began by showing us a short video of a few cases and then explained how those cases panned out. They were interesting cases because they didn’t seem as simple as they were, she taught us that we often overthink things that are actually very simple to figure out. We then participated in 2 mock trials. These involved 4-6 barristers, the accused, the victims, the witnesses and the jury. During these mock trials, different people got to act as a barrister to see if it’s what they expected and to assess if it’s something they want to do in the future. This was a good idea because it gave people a sense of what it would be like to be in court either working as a barrister or on jury service. I really enjoyed this workshop and it gave me an idea as to what it would be like to be a practicing barrister.
