We travelled to Carlingford Adventure Centre on Monday February 19th - Thursday February 22nd. This week in TY is famous for being one of the highlights of the year and it’s also known for bringing the year group closer together.
On Monday, the buses arrived at the school at around 9am and after the teachers did a bag check we all hopped onto the buses and were set to travel. When we arrived in Carlingford, we were assigned our bedrooms and told everything that was going to happen over the next few days. I was in sports group A and our first activity was Skypark. This is an obstacle course with different heights in the sky with zip lines and challenges. I loved this activity!! In the evening, we were divided up into different groups to compete in a series of challenges against each other.
On Tuesday, the plan was for us to go canoeing. The weather was freezing, windy and not the best conditions for water sports. But we ploughed through the coldness and we all turned out to be wrong, I actually really enjoyed canoeing even though it was freezing. We played little games in the middle of the session to keep us warm which turned out to be good fun. After lunch, we went to laser tag. We got dressed up in army suits with our own laser guns. Laser tag was one of the highlights of this trip, it was fun and exciting and to do this with the people from our year gave us memories we’ll never forget. That night we did an activity called Nightline. This was an activity involving us being blindfolded walking through the woods climbing over and under obstacles. It put us out of our comfort zones and made us trust the people around us.
On Wednesday, in the morning we did frisbee golf, archery and aeroball. I really enjoyed these activities as we were all a bit tired from the previous days and these activities let us enjoy the morning and have fun while not being fully challenged. After lunch, we went to Ziptopia. This is their zip lining course. I really enjoyed this activity as it was very exciting and through the trees which was a really nice view. During the evening, we took part in the murder mysteries. We’re separated into teams and had to walk around the town to find the answer and clues to the questions given. This was an interesting task to take part in.
On Thursday, this was our last day and everybody was upset about having to leave. We had all had such a good time together and didn’t want to leave. In the morning, my group did crystal maze. Which is a series of team bonding challenges. These challenges were so much fun to be apart of as people were getting annoyed when we couldn’t complete the task first time. Crystal maze was a very amusing activity and I think it was one of the best activities I did. Later that day, our last activity was high ropes. This was a bit like Skypark but you were in teams this time. There were 4 challenges within high ropes and they all were very amusing and taught us how difficult it is to work in a team sometimes. Once we got back for dinner, we had to pack up and get on the buses.
In my opinion, I loved this trip. It gave us opportunities to bond with our year group and gain new memories with our peers. I made so many new memories that will stay with me for life.
